Particulars: We did some chasing around in Clark Fork trying to decide where to set up camp. Our Internet search brought up glowing reports about Huckelberry Tent and Breakfast. I was intrigued. What an adventure! We had to load up the bikes for a two mile climb up a dirt road. When we arrived, we found some really nice tents with queen beds, a camp kitchen AND lots of mud accompanied by mosquitos. We headed back down the mountain to the Meriweather Inn.
Interesting People Along the Way: In Mazama, Washington, we stopped for lunch at the only eating establishment in town--the gas station. It turned out to have an amazing lunch counter, coffee bar and assorted selections including San Pellegrino Orange Soda and Liomonata. The young woman working the counter had just returned home from school-UC Berkeley!
So what did we find in Clark Fork, Idaho. We ate dinner at the Squeeze Inn and were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful food and service (although a bit spendy). Our waitress, the owner's daughter, had just returned from school that morning. She is a student at the San Francisco Music Conservatory studying Opera!
Hannah and I also met the town greeter when we arrived at the gas station in Clark Fork. When I walked in to the use the restroom, I was greeted by a very pleasant man who just happened to be small in stature but great in popularity. He went to give the checker a big hug and started to head my way. Not quite ready for a hug, I quickly engaged him in conversation, but couldn't understand a word he said. We were interrupted by cars and trucks pulling into the gas station for the sole purpose of calling for Denny and shaking his hand.
hello!
