It flowed to the west, now it flows to the east

Start:  Rocky Mountain Lodge, Whitefish, MT
End:  Sears Campground/RV Park/Motel/Gas Station/Dollar Rent-a-Car, East Glacier, MT

Mileage:
Weather:  No rain!  Low 60's, great biking weather.

States Conquered:  Washington; Idaho
States Being Conquered:  Montana
States to be Conquered:  North Dakota; Minnesota; Iowa; Illinois; Indiana; Ohio, Pennsylvania; New York; Vermont; New Hampshire; Maine

Particulars:  Hannah does have some of my mother's likes.  This morning at breakfast, she mixed her cranberry juice and orange juice, just like her Grandma Copier!  We sent a postcard to grandma letting her know.

The tour's first detour.  Notice that Alberta, Canada has been removed from the list of "States to be Conquered"?  Well, the original plan was to travel the Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park, over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass and into Cardston, Alberta, Canada.  Well, the pass is closed so the men had to take the southern route and cross the Continental Divide at Marias Pass.  Still a challenge, but not as high as Logan Pass.

Yes, before crossing the divide, the rivers flowed to the west, and now they flow to the east.

A report from Kelly Thompson:  Wahoo - We crossed the Rockies Saturday @ 3:30 pm in Glacier park. The peaks are unbelievably grand. The last 2 hours of the day was downhill with a stiff tail wind. Great Fun.

A report from Joe Thompson:  Here is the view from the eighth tee on the East Glacier golf course. It is about 500 yards from our camp this Saturday evening. As you can see the weather is pretty nice. Today we rode from Whitefish to East Glacier around the Southern boundary of the Park. We went over the continental divide about 10 miles from the end of the ride, total miles about 85 for the day. We were mostly riding in cloudy rain threat and wet roads, but somehow between storms. Perhaps our weather luck is changing?

It is now 30 years since MA, Kelly, Valre' and I rode these roads. Valre' spent the summers of her college years right here, waitressing at East Glacier, the Glacier Park Lodge. 30 years ago we all met up and rode a tour from West Glacier to East, back around the Park and down the Kalispel valley to the Clark Fork and on to Sandpoint I'd. Great fun.

Tomorrow we ride to Cutbank MT (50 Mi) and take half a day off.
