From Alkmaar we headed north to see the tulip fields. Henk Stuifbergen, our amazing Keukenhof and tulip guide (also the broker for the Temple Square tulip bulbs) said this was the place to go if you want to see the tulip fields in bloom. A lot of this area is reclaimed land (dikes and windmills did the job). I wonder if the Dutch look at these fields like we look at our hay and alfalfa fields--just another crop. There are no words to describe the magnificent color. The closest I can come to attempting to describe the color to your mind's eye is by comparing it to a giant multi-colored Jello ribbon salad where one layer tops another layer of brilliant color.
