Particulars: A report from Joe Thompson: We rode 92 miles from Rensselaer IN to Wabash IN. Temperature was great but we had a mild headwind most of the day. We have been forming up as a draft line (where it is safe), reducing the effort required for the riders that are not in the front. Then we rotate the rider off the front when he has had enough and let the next rider lead. This works OK, except where one rider is too strong for the group, and as it happens, Kelly is often that rider. He is wonderful about moderating his effort to match the available horsepower in the group, but it is not always possible to communicate when the pace is too much, but we are learning how to ride together.
Temps are supposed to rise sharply over the next few days, so our pace may have to decrease for a bit. Tomorrow we hope to make it to Paulding OH, where we will spend a rest day on the 4th of July.
According to Mike Thompson, Adventure Cycling needs to revisit their map instructions for this portion of the route. At least this time the riders didn't have to deal with RAIN! The last time their were map issues, they were just outside of Whitefish, Montana and dealing with WEATHER! Here Mike asks direction from a local. Was it during second breakfast, third breakfast, first lunch, second lunch . . . . ?
